Competition Will Bring Young Minds, Robots to U.Va.

Area middle- and high-schoolers test their robot-building mettle Saturday in a competition sponsored by the Engineering School. It's fun, but it's also a way to engage young minds in STEM fields, says engineering professor George Cahen.

University a Top Producer of Peace Corps Volunteers

Sixty-nine undergraduate alumni of U.Va. are serving overseas with the Peace Corps, landing U.Va. among the nation's top volunteer-producing schools for 2012. Since the inception of the Peace Corps in 1961, more than 1,000 U.Va. alumni have served, promoting world peace and improve the lives of people around the world.

U.Va. Police Mark Accreditation, Life-Saving Efforts

The U.Va. Police Department marked its formal accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies – or CALEA – Thursday during a luncheon at Alumni Hall. The department also honored three of its own for their attempts at saving lives.

Researchers Find Drug Improves Colon Cancer Survival

University of Virginia researchers have found that patients with advanced colon cancers showed improved survival rates when the drug oxaliplatin was added to standard chemotherapy treatment, according to a School of Medicine review led by Dr. Hanna K. Sanoff.
