"Be courageous," "build relationships" and "embrace the messiness" were a few of the thoughts shared by students, faculty, staff and guests during a luncheon last week at U.Va.'s Darden School of Business, part of the University's two-week celebration of the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.
Sarah Farrell, associate professor in the University of Virginia's School of Nursing, was recently awarded the inaugural Elsevier Exceptional Nursing Educator Award at the Contemporary Forums Nurse Educator conference in Las Vegas.
Think of them as a group of guys, hanging out together, but not spending much time with the ladies, nor getting much "action." Except these "guys" are forked fungus beetles. Most are highly social, but some hang out in small guy groups. The beetles are helping scientists better understand evolution of social behavior, and whether the behavior is related to their reproductive success.
Philanthropy is not just an activity of the well-to-do in the United States, Olivier Zunz, a U.Va. history professor concludes in his new book, "Philanthropy in America: A History." In the book, he also examines the relationship between philanthropy and politics, the professionalism of fundraising and the creation of the non-profit sector.
